This week we commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation with clips from the 1953 film “Martin Luther,” shown in Protestant churches throughout the United States and Canada. Luther’s insistence of “sola scriptura,” the Bible as the only authority for faith, is a cornerstone of the Protestant Reformation and fundamental to our Adventist faith. Read about Ellen White’s description of the life and ministry of Martin Luther at the link below:

Also featured this week are the schools affected by the California fires. We’ve got footage of Redwood Adventist Academy and an interview with Dee Ross, a staff member at RAA, who spent time at the site searching through the rubble. If you’d like to learn more about how you can help this school, visit:

Recently, 30 Seventh-day Adventist leaders from across the nation met up in Pasadena, California, for training in a groundbreaking curriculum that is transforming churches into places of renewal for all generations. To learn more about “Growing Young Adventists,” visit:

In honor of the anniversary of the Reformation, we’ve got a segment of the concert by the award-winning international chorale – the Philippine Meistersingers – who were hosted in June at the Loma Linda Filipino Adventist Church, singing Martin Luther’s great hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.” To watch their performance, visit:

“I cannot submit my faith either to the pope or to the councils because it is clear as the day that they have frequently erred and contradicted each other. Unless therefore I am convinced by the testimony of Scripture…I cannot and I will not retract, for it is unsafe for a Christian to speak against his conscience. Here I stand, I can do no other; may God help me. Amen.” —Martin Luther, before the Diet of Worms, 1521

Hundreds of thousands of acres have burned in the Northern California fires, and thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed. With more than 40 confirmed fatalities, these fires have become the deadliest in state history. Numerous people had to flee their homes with only a few minutes’ notice, leaving everything behind. They could use some help getting back on their feet. Although many of the properties are insured, it costs a lot of money to start over from nothing. Please help by downloading the bulletin insert/flyer at and share in your churches and schools.

Pacific Union College reopened for classes on Wednesday, and they are continuing to be watchful of the fires and to cooperate with CalFire in the firefighting efforts. Read the story on the college’s website:

Redwood Adventist Academy accepted the offer from Santa Rosa Adventist Church and Rio Lindo Academy to bring their students to their facilities until permanent decisions are made about rebuilding Redwood Adventist Academy. The Pastoral Staff at Santa Rosa Church made a special effort to show that their welcome is real with a brand new sign in front of the church. Check out the pictures at this link:
