Chai and Spirituality; Youth Pastor Uses TikTok to Engage Community—
A Southeastern California Conference Youth Pastor uses TikTok to share his love of chai tea and spiritual conversations. The Orange County Register recently featured Kevin Wilson, associate pastor at the Oceanside church in San Diego County, whose combined passion for making chai tea and having spiritual conversations has turned into a subtle and remarkably effective form of digital evangelism. “In just about three months, Wilson’s chai videos have racked up millions of views, and won him more than 106,000 followers. But underneath that patina of social media fame lies something more meaningful, the article states. Read the entire article and check out Pastor Wilson’s engaging videos.

Rio Lindo’s Program Goes the Distance, Launches Virtual Visitation—
Schools are adapting as they face virtual learning in much of our union as we begin this school year. Rio Lindo Adventist Academy has a new approach in recruiting students. When faced with travel limitations and reduced access to campus, Rio launched a “Virtual Visitation” section on their website to allow prospective families to get a taste of campus life. The Virtual Visit includes a school tour video and a chance to schedule a live information session with the enrollment team. Rio was planning on opening in-person instruction in the fall but is ready to switch to distance learning in light of COVID restrictions for schools. Check out this informative, up-close, and personal way to “see” Rio Lindo Adventist Academy! Links below.

August 2020 Recorder—Print + Online
The August Recorder will be in your homes soon, and it is online now! Churches around the Pacific Union are hosting food drives and other community service activities in order to help support individuals in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the pandemic continues to disrupt community life, Adventists across the Pacific Union affirm service to others as part of our calling to be like Jesus. This is our third issue in 2020 with the topical theme of service, part of our “Love. Serve. Lead.” focus on discipleship and ministry. Read your copy of the Recorder now via the link below.
Hawaii Schools Open for 2020-2021 School Year—
The Hawaii conference opened their schools last Monday, Aug. 3. We received this sweet video of one teacher’s experience being back with her kindergarten students at the Ka Lama Iki campus of Hawaiian Mission Academy (link below!). Thank you, Mrs. Gayle Asatani, and all the teachers and staff in Hawaii, for the way you serve your students. Beautiful story!

Women’s Ministries Focus, Aug. 8th—
The North American Division offering for Women’s Ministries is tomorrow, Sabbath, August 8. Although we can’t gather for church and put our tithes and offerings in the offering plate, we can continue to return our offerings—from tithes, to local church budgets, to “Special” offerings from the Division, like this one. It’s as easy as going to adventistgiving.org. Or call your pastor. He or she will help you with this vital part of being in this wonderful “Family of God” that is the Seventh-day Adventist church!
