The Southern California Conference was established in 1901. It has a church membership of more than 40,000 and contains more than 150 congregations and more than 20 schools. Its diverse communities worship in about 30 languages and express a variety of cultures. It is also home to Camp Cedar Falls Conference Center, located in the San Bernardino Mountains and offering summer camps and retreats.
Velino A. Salazar has served as president of the Southern California Conference (SCC) since May 2015. Prior to becoming president, he was the conference executive secretary for 12 years. Salazar also served as the SCC Hispanic Region director and served as pastor of various churches in SCC and in Mexico. He was born in Montemorelos, Mexico and holds a bachelor’s degree from Montemorelos University, a master’s degree from Andrews University, and is currently completing his doctoral degree in ministry at Andrews University. Beyond his administrative responsibilities, Salazar has held 10-day evangelistic meetings in SCC churches, because his passion is seeing people come to know Jesus Christ. He and his wife Esther have two adult children, Eric and Melissa.
