Presidential Search at Pacific Union College

Presidential Search

The Board of Trustees of Pacific Union College (PUC) invites nominations and applications for the position of President. The successful candidate will become the 24th president of PUC, a private, Seventh-day Adventist, liberal arts college, found in the picturesque Napa Valley.

“The search for a new president is very important to PUC, and the process is being carried out with diligence and care,” shared the school on their website. “While this will be an ongoing process, we want to keep you informed with the latest updates.”

PUC Presidential Leadership Profile

PUC has offered academic excellence and spiritual mentoring to thousands of students for over 130 years. A nationally ranked “best value” institution for producing top-earning alumni, PUC also ranks as one of the top ten Christian colleges in California.

One of 13 Seventh-day Adventist colleges and universities in North America, PUC is well known for its rigorous and future-focused science departments; medical, dental, and pharmacy school entrance rates; Nursing board passing rates; and its creative, award-winning, and technology-focused Visual Arts department. The PUC Visual Arts department distinguishes itself by being the only department among the Adventist colleges and universities to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The value of academic excellence is also actionized in the College’s continual regional accreditation since 1951 and national, field-specific, accreditation for the departments of Business Administration and Economics, Music, Social Work, Nursing, and Visual Arts degree programs.1

PUC’s faculty, staff, and approximately 1,000 students enjoy its beautiful and rural location while still enjoying the benefits of its proximity to the California coastline, outdoor sports in the mountains and surrounding hills, Michelin starred restaurants in the Napa Valley, and the San Francisco Bay Area2. PUC’s location supplies various levels of employment and internships in the tourism industry of the Napa Valley and the business, health, and technology industries in the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay Area for students and alumni.

The College’s Demonstration and Experimental Forest provides an extensive recreational environment with its 35 miles of recreational trails for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding as well as a rich, biodiverse learning environment where students learn the value of conservation and preservation of nature. Protected by a conservation easement, the forest contains some of the easternmost Coastal Redwood trees and the rare Napa False Indigo3. Students also benefit from the living, working laboratory of Howell Mountain Farms, a vegetable, fruit, and flower farm, as well as the Albion Field Station along the Mendocino Coast, offering an ideal base from which to explore and learn the oceanic environment.

Above all, PUC promotes spiritual growth and a community that affirms Christian faith with its commitment to the Seventh-day Adventist church, longstanding tradition of local and campus ministries involvement, robust student missionary participation, and focus on the love and natural connection of our Creator.

The successful Presidential candidate will be a strong, spiritual leader holding a terminal degree, having demonstrated successful leadership skills previously, and have a passion for the mission of Seventh-day Adventist higher education. The President will serve as a persuasive advocate for the College within the denomination, local community, and state and federal accreditation agencies. The successful candidate will capably lead efforts to tap into the available resources of the College’s varied and growing alumni, students, and the broader community.
