Sixth graders have long enjoyed practicing hands-on science in the classroom at Oceanside Adventist Elementary (OAE). They’ve traditionally done four dissections a year as they study the systems of the body. The indoor classroom looks quite different this year as students wear masks and have plexiglass partitions put up around their desks. However, OAE students are still enjoying a rich science experience with hands-on learning—they’ve just moved the lab outdoors! So far this year, students have dissected sheep brains, and were able to see all of the parts of the brain that they had been studying in their textbooks. Despite the changes COVID has brought, the teachers are glad to keep a tradition of learning and fun!
