This school year, six junior high and high school students at Holbrook Indian School in Holbrook, Ariz., participated in the Navajo Nation Science Fair. The fair took place on the Navajo Reservation in Church Rock, New Mexico. Out of 300 entries, Holbrook students placed in the top five for each of their specific subjects. Jenesis, who won 2nd place in the junior division, looked at how mealworms eat plastic. Her findings showed that mealworms favor certain kinds of plastic over others and concluded that mealworms can help reduce the plastic waste issue that plagues the planet. Staff at Holbrook shared, “We are so proud of our students and how well they did! Looking forward to next year!”
