The 61st General Conference Session of the Seventh-day Adventist Church convenes this next week in St. Louis, Missouri. The global pandemic has delayed this important meeting by two years, forcing church leaders to adopt a hybrid approach to the meeting while adjusting to a truncated schedule from the GC sessions of recent years. The meetings are being live streamed. Please join us in prayer for all those traveling to the General Conference, for the work that will be taken on by the delegates in St. Louis and gathering virtually, and for the worldwide mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas, origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. In 2021, Juneteenth became a federal holiday. We talked with Pastor Andrea King, the communication director of the Southeastern California Conference, about the importance of Juneteenth.
