Beginner Sabbath School Teachers Train in New Curriculum
Beginner Sabbath School teachers from across Hawai’i and Children’s Ministries conference leaders from California and Arizona met at Camp Waianae on Sabbath, April 13, for the Alive in Jesus training event.
Alive in Jesus is a new curriculum created by the General Conference. Our Pacific Union Youth and Children’s Ministry Department, newly headed up by Pastor Randy Hill, sponsored the event. This rare opportunity encouraged our hard-working and dedicated Beginner Sabbath School teachers to find a substitute and join the seminar for the day, beginning with breakfast at 8 a.m.
Requiring even more commitment, neighbor island Beginner Sabbath School teachers traveled from Hawai’i and Maui, either to camp overnight with mainlanders or to attend the day of the training event.
Participants received comprehensive materials, divided into three training sessions presented by speakers from the North American Division. Spanish materials were provided as well during the Spanish-speakers’ training seminar.
Beginner Sabbath School teachers recognize their partnership with parents to teach keiki from a very young age about their Lord and Savior Jesus. Their commitment, love, and creativity to teach our keiki every Sabbath was apparent as they engaged with the trainers throughout the day to learn more about the worldwide Sabbath School curriculum.
Every Sabbath, we find our Sabbath School teachers gathering the youngest members of God’s family in fellowship, worship, stories, and crafts that are age appropriate for them. Several attendees finished the training event with excitement, ready to share with their church ohana what they learned and remind them of their impact that will last a lifetime for our young keiki.
Attendees returned home with an Alive in Jesus bag filled with information that will prepare them for the upcoming transition into the new curriculum. Everyone appreciated that the training event did not cost them anything but their time and dedication—something they are used to giving to our young ones every single Sabbath.
