“I Will Pour Out My Spirit”
It is a privilege to share the stories of our churches, ministries, and schools. In June, a trend emerged in the reported stories, reminding me of the promises in Acts 1:8 and Joel 2:28-29, highlighting the Holy Spirit's transformative work among all believers.
As we do with most of our Northern California Conference stories, we shared these mission-in-action stories in our weekly e-newsletter and the official conference news source, “Northern Lights.” The stories highlight three beautiful events where the Holy Spirit's presence was felt: a Women’s Ministries event at the Arcata-McKinleyville and Eureka churches, a wave of spontaneous baptisms at Capital City church in Sacramento [story follows], and the Youth Ministries’ Summer on the Run event in Stockton.

Today is my day, and this is my time.
That Sabbath began like any other at Capital City church, but it would turn into a day etched in the memories of many. Before Pastor Damian Chandler took to the pulpit, the congregation witnessed the joyful baptism of four individuals. As the special moment concluded, while still in the baptistry, Chandler asked, “Are there people in the audience wondering if the pool is still warm? There is still time! There is still time!”
Little did anyone know what God had in store. The Holy Spirit moved powerfully over a man who had decided to attend the worship service that day. After witnessing the baptisms, Jeremiah Douglas stood up and proclaimed, “Today is my day, and this is my time.” With tears of joy, he accepted his Lord and Savior and was baptized. As Jeremiah shared his testimony, people could be seen walking up the aisle, ready to make their commitments.
Give your gift to the Lord, and He will use it to His glory. I was afraid until I saw my children get up and not be afraid. I felt the Lord convict me to be baptized today.”
The pastoral team, Damian Chandler and Jason Bulgin, overwhelmed with emotion, watched as person after person stood up and walked to the front to be baptized. Chandler exclaimed, “I'm a witness today that it’s never too late. Three more baptisms to go. The Holy Spirit is stirring the water.”
But the Holy Spirit was far from finished. Salem, a soccer player, shared his heartfelt journey, explaining how he had to “tiptoe through Adventism” to minister to his family and team members. After his friends were baptized, he joyfully declared, “Give your gift to the Lord, and He will use it to His glory. I was afraid until I saw my children get up and not be afraid. I felt the Lord convict me to be baptized today.”
Chandler, moved by the Spirit, said, “Get out of your seat and re-commit your life to Jesus. You know who you are. I'm going to keep this robe on.” A young girl responded, walking up and saying, “I want to get baptized now. God has called me to an amazing life.”
More people followed her into the baptismal pool, giving their lives to God. One man, tears streaming down his face and mingling with the water from the pool, proclaimed, “I am finally saved; thank you, Lord! I had no faith, but you found me! I was dead, and you found me! And Lord, you brought me back!”
Three siblings committed their lives to the Lord and were baptized. A married couple celebrating their anniversary that day also chose to be baptized. Associate Pastor Jason Bulgin tearfully baptized his adult daughter. A woman named Kimberly, who had been watching the service online, felt the Spirit move her so strongly that she got dressed and then drove to the church to be baptized.
Ricardo Graham, retired Pacific Union president, attended with Audrey, his wife. “We were sitting there preparing to hear Pastor Chandler’s final sermon. After the call, so many people lined up for baptism—many teens and young adults. We had never seen anything like that in our 47 years of ministry!”
By the end of this extraordinary day, after spending two hours in the baptismal pool, 30 people had given their lives to the Lord through baptism and the profession of faith.
Raven, a church attendee, summarized the day perfectly: “It was a spirit-filled day. I didn't realize at the time that my friend had gone up for baptism to re-commit herself—it was a joyful surprise to me and others because she hadn't planned it. Watching my friend open up about her journey and boldly speak about the life with Christ she desires is inspiring, and it encourages us to continue uplifting those around us in prayer.”

«Derramaré mi espíritu»

Una celebración en el cielo
«Hoy es mi día, y este es mi momento».
Ese sábado comenzó como cualquier otro en la iglesia de Capital City, pero se convertiría en un día grabado en la memoria de muchos. Antes de que el pastor Damian Chandler subiera al púlpito, la congregación presenció el gozoso bautismo de cuatro personas. Al concluir el momento especial, mientras aún estaba en el bautisterio, Chandler preguntó: «¿Hay personas en la audiencia que se preguntan si la piscina todavía está caliente? ¡Todavía estás a tiempo! ¡Todavía hay tiempo!»
Nadie sabía lo que Dios tenía reservado. El Espíritu Santo se movió poderosamente sobre un hombre que había decidido asistir al servicio de adoración ese día. Después de presenciar los bautismos, Jeremiah Douglas se puso de pie y proclamó: «Hoy es mi día, y este es mi momento». Con lágrimas de alegría, aceptó a su Señor y Salvador y fue bautizado. Mientras Jeremías compartía su testimonio, se podía ver a la gente caminando hacia el altar, lista para hacer sus compromisos.
«Dale tu don al Señor, y Él lo usará para Su gloria. Tenía miedo hasta que vi a mis hijos levantarse y no tener miedo. Sentí que el Señor me convencía de bautizarme hoy».
El equipo pastoral, Damian Chandler y Jason Bulgin, abrumados por la emoción, observaron cómo una persona tras otra se levantaba y caminaba hacia el frente para ser bautizada. Chandler exclamó: «Hoy soy testigo de que nunca es demasiado tarde. Faltan tres bautismos más. El Espíritu Santo está agitando las aguas».
Pero el Espíritu Santo estaba lejos de terminar. Salem, un jugador de fútbol, compartió su sincero viaje, explicando cómo tuvo que «pasar de puntillas por el adventismo» para ministrar a su familia y a los miembros de su equipo. Después de que sus amigos fueron bautizados, declaró con gozo: «Dale tu don al Señor y él lo usará para su gloria. Tenía temor hasta que vi a mis hijos levantarse y no tener temor. Sentí que el Señor me convencía de bautizarme hoy».
Chandler, movido por el Espíritu, dijo: «Levántate de tu asiento y vuelve a comprometer tu vida con Jesús. Sabes quién eres. Voy a mantener esta túnica puesta». Una jovencita respondió, acercándose y diciendo: «Quiero bautizarme. Dios me ha llamado a una vida increíble».
Más personas la siguieronal bautisterio, entregando sus vidas a Dios. Un hombre, con lágrimas corriendo por su rostro y mezclándose con el agua del estanque, proclamó: «Por fin me he salvado; ¡Gracias, Señor! ¡No tenía fe, pero me encontraste! ¡Estaba muerto y me encontraste! ¡Y Señor, tú me trajiste de vuelta!»
Tres hermanos entregaron su vida al Señor y fueron bautizados. Un matrimonio que celebraba su aniversario ese día también decidió bautizarse. El pastor asociado Jason Bulgin bautizó entre lágrimas a su hija adulta. Una mujer llamada Kimberly, que había estado viendo el servicio en línea, sintió que el Espíritu la movía con tanta fuerza que se vistió y luego condujo hasta la iglesia para bautizarse.
Ricardo Graham, presidente retirado de la Pacific Union Conference, asistió con Audrey, su esposa. «Estábamos sentados allí preparándonos para escuchar el último sermón del pastor Chandler. Después del llamado, muchas personas hicieron fila para bautizarse, muchos adolescentes y adultos jóvenes. ¡Nunca habíamos visto algo así en nuestros 47 años de ministerio!»
Al final de ese día extraordinario, después de pasar dos horas en el bautisterio, 30 personas habían entregado sus vidas al Señor.
Raven, una asistente a la iglesia, resumió perfectamente el día: «Fue un día lleno de espíritu. En ese momento no me di cuenta de que mi amiga había ido a bautizarse para volver a comprometerse, fue una sorpresa gozosa para mí y para los demás porque no lo había planeado. Ver a mi amiga dar ese viaje y hablar con valentía sobre la vida con Cristo que desea es inspirador y nos anima a seguir elevando a quienes nos rodean en oración».
