On March 16, 2024, over 600 freshly prepared burritos were distributed on the streets of downtown Reno in celebration of Global Youth Day 2024. This remarkable endeavor saw churches from across the Northern Nevada area—spanning from Susanville, Quincy, and Bishop, California, to Fallon, Sparks, Carson City, and Reno, Nevada—join forces in a powerful demonstration of solidarity and service to their community.
Before embarking on this altruistic mission, Nemaia Faletogo, the weekend’s guest speaker, delivered an inspiring message, reminding the participants that the church cannot be reduced to brick and mortar but is a diversity of people who make up the body of Christ.
This initiative goes along with the current year's Global Youth Day theme, "Show Up in the City," while remaining faithful to the #bethesermon tagline. Across the globe, young people have heeded the call to step out of the confines of church spaces on Sabbath and emulate Jesus' example by ministering to their surrounding communities.
Mako Chenyika, one of the participants, shared, “A lot of people were saying, ‘God bless you,’ and we were the ones who were trying to bless them with the burrito. It’s exciting to be able to help, even if it’s just one burrito. Some people were asking if there were more, and we gave them two.”
In addition to the community service, three young people responded to the call to give their lives to Christ through baptism.
Delberth Castillo, Nevada-Utah Conference (NUC) interim youth director, added, “Global Youth Day produces passion in our young people. Their enthusiasm ignites faith. Thank you to the NUC leadership team, to all the pastors, the parents, local youth leaders, and of course the young people for a great Global Youth Day. There will be other opportunities to minister together and make a difference in the community.”

Jóvenes se manifiestan en el Día Mundial de la Juventud
El 16 de marzo de 2024, se distribuyeron más de 600 burritos recién preparados en las calles del centro de Reno para celebrar el Día Mundial de la Juventud 2024. Ese notable esfuerzo vio a iglesias de toda el área del norte de Nevada, que van desde Susanville, Quincy y Bishop, California, hasta Fallon, Sparks, Carson City y Reno, Nevada, unir fuerzas en una impactante demostración de solidaridad y servicio a su comunidad.
Antes de embarcarse en esa altruista misión, Nemaia Faletogo, la oradora invitada del fin de semana, presentó un mensaje inspirador, recordando a los participantes que la iglesia no puede reducirse a ladrillos y cemento, sino que es una diversidad de personas que componen el cuerpo de Cristo.
Esa iniciativa va de la mano con el tema del Día Mundial de la Juventud del año en curso, «Preséntate en la ciudad», sin dejar de ser fiel al lema #bethesermon. En todo el mundo, los jóvenes han atendido al llamado a salir de los confines de los espacios de la iglesia el sábado y emular el ejemplo de Jesús ministrando a sus comunidades.
Mako Chenyika, uno de los participantes, compartió: «Mucha gente decía: “Dios te bendiga”, y nosotros éramos los que intentábamos bendecirlos con el burrito. Es emocionante poder ayudar, incluso si es solo un burrito. Algunas personas preguntaban si había más, y les dimos dos».
Además del servicio comunitario, tres jóvenes respondieron al llamado de entregar sus vidas a Cristo a través del bautismo.
Delberth Castillo, director interino de jóvenes de Nevada-Utah Conference (NUC), agregó: «El Día Mundial de la Juventud produce pasión en nuestros jóvenes. Su entusiasmo enciende la fe. Gracias al equipo de liderazgo de NUC, a todos los pastores, padres, líderes juveniles y, por supuesto, a los jóvenes por una gran Jornada Mundial de la Juventud. Habrá otras oportunidades para ministrar juntos y producir un impacto positivo en la comunidad».
