The first Annual Nevada-Utah Conference Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Fair was held at Summit Christian Academy (SCA) in Salt Lake City, Utah, from April 21 to April 23, 2023. The event showcased the creative and innovative projects of the students attending Vegas Valley Adventist Academy (VVAA) and the local students of SCA. The fair aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills among students, as well as to inspire curiosity and appreciation for both art and science.
Some of the highlights of the fair included a homemade water filter, the relationship between blood types and physical health, and a self-inflating balloon. It was a unique opportunity for the students to meet and mingle with other students within the conference. “Events like this bring awareness to our students that they are a part of a bigger family” remarked the principal of VVAA, Dacyl Galicia-Silveira.
Parents, pastors, and other attendees, including Nevada-Utah Conference (NUC) President Carlos Camacho, were particularly impressed by the fact that each project was tied to a spiritual and biblical application. Pastor Camacho encouraged the participants to “never be afraid of their creativity and continue to be innovative and curious.” He reminded all attendees that “God created us to be creative.” All participants were given medals for their hard work and to commemorate this special event.
The organizers of the fair, led by Fernando Lista, NUC superintendent of education, expressed their satisfaction with the good turnout and the positive feedback from the participants and visitors. Lista said he hopes that this kind of event will continue to have a positive impact on the schools across the conference. Next year the Annual NUC STEAM Fair will be hosted in Las Vegas.

Nevada-Utah Conference celebra feria STEAM
La primera Feria Anual de Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Artes y Matemáticas (STEAM) de la Nevada-Utah Conference se llevó a cabo en Summit Christian Academy (SCA) en Salt Lake City, Utah, del 21 al 23 de abril de 2023. El evento mostró los proyectos creativos e innovadores de los estudiantes que asisten a Vegas Valley Adventist Academy de Las Vegas, Nevada (VVAA) y los estudiantes de SCA. La feria tuvo como objetivo fomentar la colaboración interdisciplinaria, el pensamiento crítico y las habilidades de comunicación entre los estudiantes, así como inspirar curiosidad y aprecio por el arte y la ciencia.
Algunos de los aspectos más destacados de la feria incluyeron un filtro de agua casero, la relación entre los tipos de sangre y la salud física, y un globo autoinflable. Fue una oportunidad especial para que los estudiantes conociesen y se mezclasen con otros estudiantes dentro de la conferencia. «Eventos como este conciencian a nuestros estudiantes de que son parte de una familia más grande», comentó la directora de VVAA, Dacyl Galicia-Silveira.
Padres, pastores y otros asistentes, incluyendo al presidente de la Nevada-Utah Conference (NUC), Carlos Camacho, quedaron particularmente impresionados por el hecho de que cada proyecto estaba vinculado a una aplicación espiritual y bíblica. El pastor Camacho animó a los participantes a «nunca tener miedo de su creatividad y seguir siendo innovadores y curiosos». Recordó a todos los asistentes que «Dios nos creó para ser creativos». Todos los participantes recibieron medallas por su arduo trabajo y para conmemorar ese evento especial.
Los organizadores de la feria, encabezados por Fernando Lista, superintendente de educación de NUC, expresaron su satisfacción por la buena participación y los comentarios positivos de los participantes y visitantes. Lista dijo que espera que ese tipo de evento continúe teniendo un impacto positivo en las escuelas de la conferencia. El próximo año, la Feria Anual NUC STEAM se celebrará en Las Vegas.
