Gavin Newsom Visits Vaccine Clinic at Adventist Church
On Friday, April 2, Governor Gavin Newsom visited a coronavirus vaccination site in San Bernardino’s Westside—one of the most impoverished regions of the state—to encourage eligible Californians to get vaccinated and to highlight efforts to vaccinate people in the state’s most socioeconomically disadvantaged areas.
The pop-up vaccine clinic at Sixteenth Street Seventh-day Adventist Church was scheduled to give 500 people the Johnson & Johnson vaccine through a partnership between Loma Linda University Health and C.O.P.E—Congregations Organized for Prophetic Engagement, a network of churches focused on Black residents in the Inland Empire. The first of the 500 to be vaccinated was Sonya Gray-Hunn, age 52, a housing organizer with C.O.P.E.
